Oh my goodness, you guys! This was SO much fun. You MUST make slime with your kids. This stuff is all the rage right now and for good reason! My kids are going nuts over it! You can make a batch in under five minutes. Five minutes = hours of fun! My kids could not stop playing with it!
Do you remember Gak!? That’s what we had when I was a kid. This slime is just like that. Watching my girls with it brought back so many fun memories of playing with that stuff.
Making your own slime at home is one of the easiest DIY’s I’ve ever done… and cheapest! The ingredients to make one batch will cost you roughly $1.04. Are you kidding me? This slime has given us literally the most bang for our buck as far as playtime vs. cost goes… except for maybe cardboard boxes full of packing peanuts because well, those are free.
You only need a few simple ingredients to make slime. You may already have some of them around the house. You’ll need borax, elmer’s white glue, water, and some food coloring. The borax is found in the laundry isle. It comes in a big box, but you’ll only need 1 tablespoon. So either you’ll need to find lots of uses for the rest of the box (which it seems there are many) or you’ll be making slime for the next 100 years. 😬 I used 3 drops of liquid food coloring for each batch of slime. We had some on hand in neon colors, which was really fun! My eldest daughter picked neon purple, the youngest picked neon pink. 💜💕
I let my 4 (almost 5) year old mix up the first batch we made. She totally got a kick out of being a part of the process. When she pulled the slime out of the bowl, it was like magic! It was pretty cool how it almost instantly turned into a slimy mass. While that batch turned out kind of lumpy until she had played with it for a while, it was definitely worth letting her have the fun of seeing it come together. I think it was lumpy because the glue and water mixture wasn’t completely homogeneous before we added the rest of the ingredients. That batch was also less slimy and loose than the second batch, but still perfectly slimy enough for them to play with. So all in all the project was a success!
Make Your Own Slime!
Make this easy homemade slime in less than 5 minutes! Your kids will have hours of fun!
- 4 oz Elmer's white glue washable
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 3 drops food coloring
- 1 tbsp borax
- 1 cup hot water
Whisk the glue, 1/2 cup hot water, and food coloring in a medium sized bowl until homogenous.
Stir together the borax and 1 cup water.
Pour the borax solution into the glue solution. Stir until it looks like no more slime is forming. Let set about 30 seconds.
Pull out the slime, discard the excess water, and have fun!
- This is NOT edible, please supervise children.
- It may be lumpy. After it's played with for a while, it should smooth out.
- It will wash out of clothing if you use washable glue.
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge to prevent it from drying out or growing mold.
Just a couple of girls having so much fun with SLIME! They have been playing with this slime all weekend. Letting it drip, squish, and toot. 😳 I really can’t say enough fun things about it. Just a word of caution, it will stick to clothing! BUT it did wash out! It may take a couple of washes though, it did for one particularly slimy shirt anyway. If you make the slime, I’d love to hear about it!
