How To: Cook Bacon in the Oven

Do you know the fastest, easiest way to cook bacon?  We’re talking a whole pound all at once?  Without the risk of splatter burns?  I do!

Bake it in the oven!   I tell ya, it was about a year ago when I tried this and I haven’t looked back since.  Baking bacon in the oven yields uniformly cooked, flat strips of bacon in about 15 minutes.  It’s amazing.  Also, cleanup is so much easier than the fry pan.

Step 1: Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment or foil so that it goes up and over the sides.  I like parchment.  My foil is never big enough to cover the whole pan, so I have to use two pieces of foil and fold them together to make one sheet.  The grease sometimes seeps through the seam and makes my pan dirtier than I prefer, but either works fine.

Step 2: Lay out your strips of bacon.  If they touch a little it’s ok, but they may stick together as they cook.  I was crumbling this bacon anyway, so it didn’t matter.

Step 3: Bake at 375°F for 15-20 minutes, or until desired crispness.  Time is really dependent on the thickness of your bacon and how crispy you like it.

Step 4: EAT ALL THE BACON.  Wait, first you should remove it to a paper towel lined plate to soak up the grease.  I got ahead of myself over the smell of this delicious bacon.

Step 5: Lay out a few paper towels over the grease on the pan to soak it up.  Remove the parchment/foil and drop it in the garbage can.  Seriously, if you did it right, your pan will barely be dirty.  It’s AMAZING.

Have you ever made bacon in the oven?  I love this method.  Give it a try!
